Information we collect

When you browse the catalogue, we don't require an account. When you purchase a license, checkout is handled by Stripe, our payment processor — we receive your name, email, and order details, but we never see or store your full card number. If you create an account with one of our tools (like The Ledger), we collect your email address and the activity tied to that account, such as saved searches and license request drafts. When you sign up for the mailing list or submit the contact form, we collect the email address and message you provide.

How we use it

We use this information to fulfill license purchases, send your signed license, operate the accounts and saved data for tools like The Ledger, respond to inquiries, and — only if you've signed up — send occasional updates about new releases. We don't sell your information to third parties.

Third-party services

Payments are processed by Stripe. Audio, images, and account data are stored with Supabase. We use Google Analytics to understand site traffic and how our tools are used. Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing the data they process on our behalf.

Cookies

We use functional cookies (for example, to keep you signed into an account) and analytics cookies through Google Analytics, which helps us understand how visitors use our sites. We don't run third-party ad-tracking or retargeting cookies.

Data retention

We keep order and license records for as long as needed for accounting, tax, and legal purposes, and to honor your license. Account activity, like saved searches and drafts, is kept for as long as your account is active. Mailing list and contact submissions are kept until you ask us to delete them.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in those emails. If you're located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or a U.S. state with its own privacy law (such as California), you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what's collected and to opt out of certain sharing. Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

We may update this policy from time to time; the "last updated" date above will reflect the most recent change.

Introduction and acceptance

Welcome to Range of Motion Recordings ("ROM," "we," "us," "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website (the "Site"), the Catalogue, Commissions, and any related tools we offer (together, the "Services"). The Ledger is governed additionally by its own terms — see below. By browsing the Site, creating an account, or purchasing a license, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site and Services. See also our Privacy Policy for how we handle your information.

License to use the Site and Licensed Materials

Everything on the Site — the recorded tracks, cover art, photography, video, and written content (the "Licensed Materials") — is owned by ROM or by the artists who license their work through ROM, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property law. Browsing the Site or creating an account does not transfer any ownership in the Licensed Materials to you.

Purchasing a license grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the specific track(s) you licensed, for the term and use described in your signed license. It does not grant rights to any other track, and it does not permit you to resell, sublicense, or redistribute the underlying audio file itself.

Accounts

A free account lets you claim your free track, check out faster on future purchases, and view your license history in your dashboard. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us right away.

Musicians who submit tracks for the Catalogue use a separate account type, governed additionally by the Artist and Musician Submissions section below.

Streaming, downloads, and the free track

You may stream track previews on the Site without an account. Creating a free account currently unlocks one full-length track download, offered as an introduction to the catalogue's sound and quality. Unless and until you purchase a license for that track, it is provided for personal evaluation and practice use only, and may not be used in a performance, competition, film, broadcast, or any public release.

Licensing options, pricing, and how purchases work

Each track can be licensed under one of three terms — 2-Day, 1-Week, or 1-Month — priced per track and shown on the track's page. You can add multiple tracks to your cart and check out once; each track in your order still receives its own signed license.

Your license term does not start on the day you check out — it starts on the performance, screening, or project date you provide at checkout, so you can purchase in advance and lock in your price without losing coverage time.

At checkout, you'll also indicate whether your use is a live performance or a film/video project. This determines how certain fields on your license are labeled but does not change the scope of rights granted.

If your organization needs to pay by invoice or purchase order rather than a card, you may submit an invoice request instead of checking out directly. Submitting a request does not itself create a binding order — an order is final only once payment is arranged and confirmed.

Full details on what a license permits — stage, screen, festival, and competition use; non-monetized livestream and social sharing; permitted edits; crediting — are set out in your signed license PDF and the Site's Licensing FAQ, both incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Artist and musician submissions

Musicians may apply to submit original tracks to the Catalogue through a separate musician account. Every submission is reviewed before it becomes visible to customers, and ROM may decline a submission for any reason.

By submitting a track, you represent and warrant that you own or control all rights necessary to submit it, that it does not infringe anyone else's rights, and that you have the authority to grant ROM the rights needed to list and license it through the Catalogue. The specific terms of that arrangement are set out in a separate agreement between ROM and the musician.

Commissions

Custom composition requests submitted through the Commissions page are quoted and scoped individually, and are governed by a separate agreement between you and ROM covering deliverables, revisions, timeline, and ownership of the finished work — not by the general licensing terms above.

Payments, refunds, and cancellations

All payments are processed by Stripe; ROM does not receive or store your full card number. Prices are shown in U.S. dollars.

All license purchases are final. Because a license has no recurring fee and nothing to cancel, we do not offer refunds once a purchase is completed. If something about your order is genuinely wrong — for example, a technical failure that prevented you from receiving your license — contact us and we'll look into it.

User conduct

You agree not to use the Site or Services unlawfully, to infringe anyone else's rights, to attempt to bypass account or payment security, or to access parts of the Site or Services you're not authorized to use. You're responsible for making sure your own use of the Licensed Materials complies with applicable law.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Site, Services, and Licensed Materials are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, ROM's total liability for any claim relating to the Site or Services is limited to the amount you actually paid ROM in the twelve months before the claim arose, and ROM is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold ROM, its founder, and its artists harmless from any claim arising out of your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Licensed Materials, including use of a licensed track outside the scope of what you actually purchased.

The Ledger

The Ledger is a separate research tool offered by ROM at ledger.rangeofmotionrecordings.com. It is governed by its own terms and disclaimers — in particular, around the accuracy of the ownership data it surfaces and the license-request drafts it generates — which are incorporated by reference and take precedence over this document for anything specific to The Ledger.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the Site after an update takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
